Whether it’s because of drought or the anticipated effects of climate change, the supply of Colorado River water to Western states is something that attracts a lot of focus.

And earlier this month, we learned that less-than-ideal rainfall in the winter means that water levels in Lake Mead will be lower than anticipated and could drop 20 feet by 2019.

Mead and Lake Powell are often referred to as water savings accounts. But some are wondering whether this is the time to modify the Colorado’s dams, primarily Glen Canyon.
