“Bureaucracy” has become a something of a dirty word in recent decades, and President Trump turned up the volume on that sentiment in his 2016 campaign.

At this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference, Trump’s Chief Strategist Steve Bannon laid out a three-point plan of action for the administration, including “the deconstruction of the administrative state.”

The President signed an executive order last month aiming to find where federal agencies can trim costs. And, according to the Washington Post, out of the 558 key positions that require Senate confirmation, more than 400 of them have no nominee.

But not everyone thinks cutting government jobs is the best way to create a more efficient government. In fact, The Show’s Lauren Gilger spoke with someone who is speaking out in defense of bureaucracy.

Adnan Rasool, a Ph.D. candidate and Innovation Fellow in Georgia State University’s Department of Political Science, says bureaucracy is the hidden machine that makes the system run.

And by not filling government jobs the way the Trump administration has so far, we’re just hurting our democracy.
