U.S. Sen. John McCain is in the Asia-Pacific region this week. He stopped in Australia on Tuesday, urging the country to join the United States and other allies in regular patrols of the South China Sea, where China has made territorial claims to islands that are disputed by international law.

He also made a point to reassure his audience in Sydney about U.S. policy, saying “President Trump’s actions and statements have unsettled America’s friends. They have unsettled many Americans as well.”

Joining us now is Aaron Friedberg, professor of politics and international affairs at Princeton University.
