Last November revealed deeper cracks among people in the U.S. than perhaps most people were aware of. Whether that was reflected in the political rhetoric or the actual outcome of the presidential election, the impact is still being felt.
Lauren Berlant is a professor at the University of Chicago. She studies race, politics and culture, and recently has written about political emotions and Donald Trump.
