About 150 people gathered outside the Arizona capitol to protest the electoral vote. Many hoped some electors would change their minds.

Arizona’s 11 representatives to the Electoral College cast their ballots unanimously for Donald Trump on Monday to become the next United States president.

Sharon Giese, an elector from Mesa, said she had been inundated with phone calls from constituents leading up to the vote.

"I’ve been receiving thousands and thousands of emails, telephones and letters in the mail," she explained. "Lots of Christmas cards, well wishes, and obviously to change my vote."

While electors were casting their formal votes, about 150 protesters gathered outside the Arizona State Capitol holding signs and chanting “the people reject the President Elect” in hopes a few electors might change their minds.

Molly McCloy, a resident of Tucson, was one of them. She said she joined the protest as a last-ditch effort to convince electors to vote for anyone other than Donald Trump.

"I think he’s going to dismantle our democracy," she said. "And I think all of his selections so far for his Cabinet have indicated that he has every intention of doing so. I find him to be very scary."

The event remained peaceful and continued through late morning.
