The area around Tempe Town Lake is about to become more populated. A development team has been selected to develop the city’s Biomedical and Technology Campus.

Donna Kennedy with the city of Tempe said with the final team assembled, they hope to start building soon. She said many businesses have expressed high demand for these spaces due to its location and proximity to Arizona State University.

“There’s not a lot of research labs, wets and dry labs, in close proximity to ASU’s bio-designs,"  Kennedy. "So we realized after having been approached by various companies, given the fact that they liked the workforce coming out of ASU as far as their research, and they wanted to capture on that."

The proposed 1 million-square-foot campus would sit on the southwest side of Tempe Town Lake. The development team includes The Boyer Company, SmithGroupJJR and Okland Construction.

Kennedy said the city hopes to have the first phase of construction completed by 2018.
