The Grand Canyon is one of the most visited National Parks in the country, but in the early part of last century — not so much. That started to change, though, thanks in part to the Santa Fe Railway, and its concessionaire, the Fred Harvey Company.
A new exhibit at the Heard Museum looks at their role in helping people discover the Grand Canyon, American Indian culture and the southwest more broadly.
Diana Pardue, the Heard’s curator of collections, and research associate Kathy Howard have also written a book together on this subject.
Howard talked about the impact of Harvey’s Indian Museum and shop that opened at the Alvarado Hotel in Albuquerque.
