Would you spend $6,400 on a record? That’s how much a collector paid a couple years ago for this rare 45 by The Parliaments, a group fronted by George Clinton that eventually turned into the legendary Parliament-Funkadelic.

It’s the thrill of hunting for a rare find like this that drives a local record swap meet put on by a group called RARE, Really Avid Record Enthusiasts. Dan Hull is one of those enthusiasts. His record collection hit about 2,000 at its peak. Lately, he has been selling off some of that vinyl at the swap meet.

“It’s not really about me trying to make money. It's more trying to sell them to people who also love the music," Hull said. "And, you know, making a little bit of extra money so that I can buy records. A lot of guys will do both, they'll go to the show and they'll have a small table to sell stuff. And then they run around and buy stuff from the other dealers.”

The meet has been running in its current form for more than a decade, with a year off for some construction at the building. It’s back on, meeting every other month.

“I’m happy that the show is still going on. I'm happy that we still have our little record show," said Hull.

The RARE Record Swap Meet is Saturday at the Arizona American Italian Club in Phoenix.
