The Arizona State Board of Education will be meeting Tuesday and among the topics of discussion will be replacing its executive director, Christine Thompson, who late last week announced her resignation.

The board and Diane Douglas, the superintendent of public instruction, have been embroiled in legal and personnel battles. Douglas tried to fire both Thompson and her deputy, Sabrina Vasquez, earlier this year, and now both have resigned.

Howie Fischer, with Capitol Media Services, shed light on the situation.

In an email statement Douglas said she would not attend the meeting. She also criticized board president Greg Miller, saying in part that Miller has turned board meetings into “spectacles that do nothing but harm our education system.”
