Members of the business community have been discussing the potential they see in drones. This week, firms that handle retail facilities maintenance have been hearing about how unmanned aerial systems could help them do their jobs more safety and less expensively.

Josh Pola is chief operating officer for the Indiana-based firm Springwise Facility Management, and gave a presentation on drones at the Professional Retail Store Maintenance Association conference, in Scottsdale.

In an email, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said the agency has published a proposed rule for small unmanned aircraft, and expects it to become final next summer. He also said people should neither fly drones anywhere near manned aircraft, nor near unprotected people on the ground.
